A Traditional and Fragrant Summer Border Idea

Perennial Combinations, Plant Combinations, Summer Borders

Perennial Combinations, Plant Combinations, Summer Borders, Plant combination ideas, BPerennial combinations, David austin Rose Graham Thomas, Nepeta Six Hills Giant, alchemilla mollis

Shrub Roses can be combined effectively with long-blooming perennials. This superb traditional border is a good example, where the delicate cascade of intensely fragrant, golden double rosettes of David Austin’s English Rose ‘Graham Thomas’ have been underplanted with the lavender blooms of Nepeta ‘Six Hills Giant’ (Catmint) and the contrasting bright yellow foliage of Alchemilla mollis (Lady’s Mantle). These perennial plants are natural Rose companion plants which are perfect for hiding their leggy stems.

Most plants have won the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society. Easy to grow, they require moderate maintenance and will attract the energy of butterflies and hummingbirds. Most of them are deer and rabbit resistant too!
