Regarded as one of the best California Lilacs for gardens, award-winner Ceanothus ‘Concha’ is a dense, evergreen shrub noted for its abundant clusters of deep blue flowers in late spring and early summer. Opening from reddish purple buds, the flowers are so profuse that they literally cover the bush, transforming the plant in an explosion of blue. The blooms are borne on gracefully ascending, arching branches clad with small, dark green leaves. Ignored by hungry deer, this pretty shrub is a real magnet for birds, butterflies and hummingbirds. A glorious and reliable Californian Lilac.

  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society.
  • Grows with a dense habit, up to 4-8 ft. tall (120-240 cm) and 6-12 ft. wide (180-360 cm), the milder the climate the bigger the size.
  • Thrives in average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. Appreciates afternoon shade in hot summer areas. This plant tolerates a wide range of soils and alkalinity. Provide a sheltered position. Established plants need no summer water, but will tolerate it. Drought tolerant.
  • Excellent background plant for sunny areas, ideal as a specimen plant, wall-side borders, hedges and screens or planted in shrub borders.
  • Easy to grow, this plant is difficult to transplant once established.
  • Propagate by semi-hardwood cuttings
  • Watch for scale insects, honey fungus and Phytophthora root disease.
