Coastal Tidytips, Common Tidy Tips, Layia platyglossa ssp. campestris, Layia platyglossa var. breviseta, Layia ziegleri
Layia platyglossa (Coastal Tidytips) is a showy annual wildflower boasting bright yellow daisies, 2 in. across (5 cm), tipped in white. Blooming profusely from early spring to early summer, the flowers provide cheerful color in the landscape. They are borne on stout, succulent stems above the foliage of narrowly divided gray-green leaves. They attract many pollinators, especially butterflies. The blossoms are followed by tufted, dandelion-seed-like fruits that birds eagerly consume. Dependable and easy to grow, Coastal Tidytips is an attractive wildflower that is popular in traditional gardens, wildlife gardens, and habitat gardens. It is also used in habitat restoration projects. Spectacular when massed and combined with other wildflowers. It reseeds readily and can form dense colonies.
