Quite colorful, Lonicera x italica ‘Harlequin’ (Honeysuckle) is a deciduous vine noted for its variegated foliage of blue-green oval leaves boldly variegated with creamy white margins. Colorful all season, the leaves display wonderful fall color. In late spring to early summer, it boasts abundant clusters of extremely fragrant, tubular cream and pink flowers. This first flush is followed by sporadic blooms throughout the summer into fall. This showy honeysuckle is not invasive and is tolerant of heat, humidity and dry soil conditions. It is a wonderful addition to summer gardens, especially when trained up a trellis or fence. The glorious scent is strongest at night, so plant it near a house window where the heady perfume will drift in on warm evenings.
