Lonicera japonica ‘Halliana’ (Japanese Honeysuckle)

A widely grown variety, Lonicera japonica ‘Halliana’ (Japanese Honeysuckle) is a vigorous twining vine bearing highly fragrant, pure white, tubular flowers that gradually change to pale yellow from late spring through late summer. They are followed by glossy, black berries (in hot summers) that attract birds. This Japanese honeysuckle has a lush foliage of oval, dark green leaves throughout the growing season. It is deciduous in northern climates but often evergreen in warmer areas. Native to eastern Asia, this rampant and invasive vine should be replaced by similar but better behaved honeysuckle vines such as Lonicera periclymenum (Woodbine) or Lonicera heckrottii (Goldflame Honeysuckle). If used in the garden, great care should be taken with managing it and with disposing of unwanted material.
