Loropetalum chinense var. rubrum Crimson Fire™ (Chinese Fringe Flower)
Chinese Fringe Flower Crimson Fire™, Crimson Fire Chinese Fringe Flower, Loropetalum chinense var. rubrum 'PIILC-I' PP25534
Prized by gardeners for its sharp color contrast with other ornamental plants, Loropetalum chinense var. rubrum Crimson Fire™ (Chinese Fringe Flower) is a dwarf bushy evergreen shrub of neat, compact habit with rich ruby-red leaves which retain their color and persist all year-round. In spring, it produces abundant clusters of bright neon-pink, spidery flowers, each with narrow, twisted, inch-long petals. The vibrant blossoms stand out against the dark evergreen foliage. Deer resistant with an excellent cold tolerance, this striking evergreen shrub is perfect as an accent or in mass plantings. It makes a lovely hedge along the entryway, looks great in perennial borders or in containers.
- Grows up to 4 ft. tall (120 cm) and 4-5 ft. wide (120-150 cm).
- A full sun to part shade lover, this plant is easily grown in humus-rich, fertile, moist, well-drained soils. Best flower production and leaf color in full sun although this plant appreciates some afternoon shade. Shelter from cold winds and provide winter protection.
- Virtually pest and disease free. Deer resistant.
- Extremely versatile, Chinese Fringe Flower may be used as a specimen plant or in small groups. Perfect for foundation plantings, beds and borders, hedges and screens or containers.
- Little pruning required except for removal of unsightly shoots and deadheading, unless some shaping is required.
- Propagate by semi-ripe cuttings in summer with bottom heat
- Native to China, Southeast Asia and Japan
