Award-winning Tradescantia ‘Concord Grape’ (Spider Lily) is an excellent clump-forming perennial with narrowly lance-shaped blue-green leaves which remain attractive during most of the growing season. From early to midsummer, the foliage is topped by small clusters of three-petaled, bright purple flowers, up to 1.5 in. across (4 cm), adorned with showy yellow stamens. Blooming in succession for about 8 weeks, each flower lasts only a day, but there is such an abundance of flower buds that this plant is rarely out of bloom. The flowers are self-cleaning, so deadheading is not necessary.

  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society.
  • Grows up to 15-18 in. tall (37-45 cm) and 18-24 in. wide (45-60 cm).
  • Easily grown in fertile, moist, well-drained soils in sun or shade.
  • Great for beds and borders, city gardens, cottage gardens, or coastal gardens.
  • Virtually pest and disease free.
  • After flowering, cut back flowered stems to prevent seeding and encourage further flowers.
  • Propagate by division in spring or autumn.
