Garden Verbena, Trailing Vervain, Trailing Verbena

Verbena 'Tapien', Garden Verbena Tapien, Trailing Vervain Tapien, Trailing Verbena Tapien, purple verbena, Drought tolerant plants

Verbena ‘Tapien’ is a spectacular trailing Verbena that can be extremely useful for filling bare spots! It features a very attractive, airy, lacy, dark green foliage covered with profuse and showy flowers, creating an endless carpet of blossoms from summer to frost. Butterflies are most fond of the sweet flowers whose colors include blue-violet, pink, lavender, salmon, and white.

  • Very flat-growing, 3-7 in. tall (7-17 cm) with a neat, multi-branching growth habit and vigorously spreading up to 36 in. wide (90 cm) via creeping stems rooting into the soil or mulch, this verbena is a tender perennial that is hardy to zone 8. Evergreen in zones 8 – 10, it may be grown as an annual in other climates.
  • Easy and fast-growing, this undemanding plant is fairly drought-tolerant and powdery mildew resistant.
  • Thrives in full sun or part shade, in fertile and well-drained soils.
  • Perfectly suited for use as ground covers, edging plants, containers, and hanging baskets, from which their flower-laden stems cascade spectacularly.
  • No deadheading is required. If becoming ragged in mid-summer, shear them back to half their size. Regular fertilizer will boost flowering.
