Achillea ageratifolia, Balkan Yarrow, Greek Yarrow, Evergreen Perennial, Greek Native Plants, White Flowers

Award-winning Achillea ageratifolia (Greek Yarrow) is a charming tufted semi-evergreen perennial forming a low-growing and compact mound of aromatic, narrow, silvery-green leaves, 1.5 in. long (4 cm). The foliage is evergreen in mild winter climates. In spring to early summer, solitary bright white flowers, 1 in. across (2.5 cm), are borne in small clusters above the foliage. The combination of silver foliage and crisp white flowers is really lovely. Native to the Balkans, this sturdy perennial spreads quickly, but not aggressively, to form a dense mat of attractive silver-gray foliage. Easy care, cold, drought tolerant, and deer resistant, Greek Yarrow is very versatile and can be used as a small-scale groundcover, in rock gardens, containers or along paths where its beauty can be enjoyed close-up.

  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society
  • Grows up to 6-8 in. tall (15-20 cm) and 10-12 in. wide (25-30 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun in lean, dry to medium moisture, well-drained sandy loams. Tolerant of poor soils as long as good drainage is provided. Heavy clay soils and moist, rich, fertile soils should be avoided.
  • A good choice for city gardens, rock gardens, coastal gardens, containers and banks and slopes.
  • No serious pest or disease issues. Keep an eye out for aphids, stem rot, powdery mildew and rust.
  • Cut down flowered stems when finished.
  • Propagate by seed in situ or divide in spring.
  • Native to Greece and Bulgaria.
  • Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
