AGM Award
Geranium palmatum, Canary Island Cranesbill, Canary Island Geranium, Geranium anemonifolium, purple geranium, pink geranium, evergreen geranium

Award-winning Geranium palmatum (Canary Island Cranesbill) is a robust evergreen perennial forming a large rosette of deeply dissected dark green leaves, up to 12 in. wide (30 cm). In late spring to early summer, tall, airy inflorescences of showy purplish-pink flowers, adorned with deep crimson centers, rise well above the attractive foliage. Short-lived and often grown as a biennial, this is a desirable plant for mild winter gardens and a real show-stopper.

  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society
  • Grow up to 3-4 ft. tall and wide (90-120 cm). Although this plant is a biennial or short-lived perennial, it self-sows in optimum growing conditions and remains in the garden.
  • Performs best in full sun in well-drained soils. This plant is not fussy about soils provided they are well-drained. Keep in a frost-free environment over winter. Afternoon shade is welcomed in hot summer areas.
  • Perfect addition to beds, borders, cottage gardens, Mediterranean gardens, or cottage gardens.
  • This Geranium is generally pest-free. Watch for powdery mildew and downy mildew
  • Remove flowered stems and old leaves to encourage the production of fresh leaves and flowers.
  • Propagate by division in spring or propagate by basal cuttings in early to mid-spring and root with bottom heat
  • Native to Madeira and the Canary Islands.
