Potentilla recta ‘Warrenii’ (Sulphur Cinquefoil) is a vigorous, tufted, herbaceous perennial with palmately divided leaves adorned with 5-9 coarsely toothed, hairy leaflets. From late spring to late summer, bright canary-yellow, saucer-shaped flowers, 1 in. across (2.5 cm), are carried in loose terminal clusters. Potentilla recta ‘Warrenii’ is not as weedy as the species and flowers for a longer time. It is a good choice for the front of a sunny border.

  • Grows up to 12-18 in. tall and wide (30-45 cm). Will spread in the garden by self-seeding.
  • Performs best in full sun or part shade, in moderately fertile, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Drought tolerant once established.
  • Great for banks and slopes, beds and borders, city gardens, coastal gardens, cottage gardens, rock gardens or containers.
  • Virtually pest and disease free. Rarely if ever troubled by browsing deer.
  • After flowering, remove the flower stems at ground level.
  • Can be propagated by division in spring.
  • Potentilla recta species is classified as a noxious weed in five U.S. States (Washington, Oregon, Montana, Nevada and Colorado) plus in the Province of British Columbia, Canada.
