Agastache ‘Kudos Red’ (Hummingbird Mint)

Agastache ‘Kudos Red’ (Hummingbird Mint) is a compact and bushy, upright herbaceous perennial forming a low tight mound of aromatic, dark green, oval to lance-shaped leaves. From early summer until fall, it boasts airy spikes of cheerful, bright red flowers. Blooming continuously weeks after weeks, they provide long-lasting, glowing color in beds, borders, or containers and hummingbirds feast on them. Delicate-looking but fast-growing, this pretty Agastache is among the best of all hardy perennials for attracting pollinating insects.

This Agastache belongs to the Kudos Series, which is noted for its dwarf, well-branched plants that are hardy and nearly impervious to downy mildew.

• Grows up to 12-20 in. tall (30-50 cm) and 25 in. across (62 cm). The aromatic leaves exude a minty scent when crushed.
• Easily grown in full sun, in average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils. Good drainage is particularly important. Although a drought-tolerant plant, it might need watering in extreme dry weather spells.
• Provides a bold visual impact in beds and borders, cottage gardens, city gardens, butterfly gardens, or patio containers over a very long season.
• Ideal to add color to the late-season garden when many other plants are fading.
• Creates a stunning effect when mixed with other perennials or planted en masse.
• Attracts streams of hummingbirds, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators.
• Generally disease and pest-free (might occasionally be subject to powdery mildew) and resistant to deer and rabbits.
• Deadhead spent flowers to promote additional bloom.
