Agastache rugosa f. albiflora 'Alabaster' (Korean Mint)

White-Flowered Korean Mint 'Alabaster', Agastache foeniculum 'Alabaster'

Adding lovely vertical lines to the garden, Agastache rugosa f. albiflora 'Alabaster' (Korean Mint) is a compact and bushy, upright herbaceous perennial with aromatic, dark green, oval to lance-shaped leaves. From mid-summer to early fall, it produces ravishing spikes of creamy-white flowers held over the foliage mound. The long flowering season, showy flower spikes, licorice-scented foliage, low maintenance, and deer resistance of this Agastache explain its great popularity among gardeners. And it is not only pleasing to people. Bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies love it too.

  • Grows up to 36 in. tall (90 cm) and 18-24 in. wide (45-60 cm). The aromatic leaves exude an anise scent when crushed. They are edible and may be sprinkled in salads, used to decorate cakes, or to add flavor to teas.
  • Easily grown in full sun, in average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils. Dislikes damp conditions and needs excellent drainage. Although a drought-tolerant plant, it might need watering in extreme dry weather spells.
  • Provides a bold visual impact in beds and borders, cottage gardens, city gardens, butterfly gardens, or patio containers over a very long season. Ideal for naturalistic planting schemes. Great as cut flowers too!
  • Ideal to add color to the late-season garden when many other plants are fading.
  • Creates a stunning effect when mixed with other perennials or planted en masse.
  • Attracts streams of hummingbirds, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators.
  • Generally disease and pest-free (might occasionally be subject to powdery mildew) and resistant to deer and rabbits.
  • While a sturdy plant, this Agastache may require staking if planted in rich, moist soils or in exposed locations.
  • Deadhead spent flowers to promote additional bloom.
  • Propagate by seed or by division in spring.
  • Agastache rugosa is native to China, Vietnam, Laos, Korea, and Japan.
