Heuchera ‘Grape Expectations’ (Coral Bells) is a clump-forming, evergreen perennial forming a dense, upright mound of broad, thick and durable leaves. Emerging vibrant grape purple with black veins in spring, the foliage develops a silver overlay as the season progresses. Blooming in mid-summer, a profusion of small, creamy white flowers are produced on dark purple stems rising up to 34 in. (85 cm) above the foliage. Grape Expectations is a Heuchera villosa hybrid. Native to the southeastern United States, Heuchera villosa is noted for its tolerance to high heat and humidity over the other species. This showy heuchera combines extremely well with a wide range of colors and helps create wonderful plant combinations in gardens or pots. A sturdy performer that is not only easy to grow, but also requires little maintenance. Wonderful as an accent, in containers or in mixed borders.

  • Forms a basal mound up to 12 in. tall (30 cm) and 24 in. wide (60 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun, part shade, or full shade in rich, humusy, medium moisture, well-drained soils. If grown in full sun, make sure the soil remains consistently moist or the foliage might decline. Thrives in dry shade, once established. Salt tolerant.
  • It is attractive to bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds and is often ignored by deer.
  • A spectacular addition to beds and borders, city gardens, cottage gardens, coastal gardens, and woodland gardens and is ideal as a groundcover, edger along paths, or in containers. Fabulous when planted in groups!
  • No serious pest or disease issues. Keep an eye out for vine weevil and heuchera rust.
  • Propagate by division in autumn. Divide clumps in spring every 3-4 years.
  • Remove stems of faded flowers to promote additional bloom. Apply winter mulch after the ground freezes to help prevent root heaving.
