Calling out for attention, Penstemon ‘Midnight Masquerade’ (Beardtongue) is a clump-forming perennial boasting a spectacular display of rich lavender purple flowers adorned with pure white interiors. Blooming profusely in early to midsummer, the blossoms are borne on upright dark stems just above the foliage of deep burgundy purple leaves. They attract scores of hummingbirds, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators. Easy to grow, fuss-free, drought and salt tolerant, this beardtongue selection is noted for its fuller, more refined habit, more vibrant flower color, and its more consistent, floriferous flowering performance. It is perfect for the border, for naturalizing, and for cut flowers.

  • Grows up to 36-40 in. tall (90-100 cm) and 28-32 in. wide (70-80 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun in moderately fertile, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Drought and salt tolerant.
  • Provides a charming impact in beds and borders, cottage gardens, rock gardens or prairies.
  • Keep an eye out for aphids, thrip, and spider mites. Crown and root rots may occur without proper drainage.
  • Good air circulation and water drainage are important.
