Rosa Gentle Hermione (English Rose)

Rose Gentle Hermione, Rosa 'Ausrumba', Shrub Roses, David Austin Roses

Bred by David Austin, English Rose Gentle Hermione is incredibly beautiful with its fully double, perfectly formed flowers of true old rose character. The large blossoms, up to 4 in. wide (10 cm), start as rounded buds which open gradually to form shallow cups of pure pink, delicately blushed towards the outside. Rich with a strong old rose scent, the numerous petals (90 petals per flower) are perfectly arranged and resistant to rain. Very hardy and irresistible!

  • Blooming in flushes from late spring until frost, this is an excellent repeat bloomer.
  • Grows up to 4 feet tall (120 cm) and spreads 3 feet wide (90 cm). This medium size rose bush forms a lovely, rounded shrub with slightly arching stems and matte, dark green leaves. It is ideal for the back of the border or as hedges or screens. Spectacular when combined with the cool blue colors of salvia, nepeta, or lavender.
  • Plant it where you will be able to enjoy its perfume daily: near a doorway, along a path, near your patio or deck. Excellent as cut flowers.
  • Best grown in full sun, in rich, fertile, well-drained soils with adequate moisture.
  • This rose shrub is vigorous and healthy.
  • This lovely rose was named after Hermione, the faithful wife of Leontes, the King of Sicilia, and mother of Perdita in Shakespeare’s ‘The Winter’s Tale’.
  • David Austin’s English Roses combine the flower forms and perfume of Old Roses with the color range and repeat-flowering habits of modern roses. As a Rose breeder, David Austin’s achievement is in marrying the romantic “English Rose” look with reliable garden performance, vigorous growth, full bushes, disease resistance, and prolific season-long bloom. Over 200 English Roses have been released since 1961, many of them receiving the highest rewards.
