Rudbeckia triloba 'Prairie Glow' (Brown-Eyed Susan)
Brown-Eyed Susan 'Prairie Glow', Native Black-Eyed Susan 'Prairie Glow', Thin-Leaved Rudbeckia 'Prairie Glow', Thin-Leaf Coneflower 'Prairie Glow', Branched Coneflower 'Prairie Glow'
Terrific in the late-season garden, Rudbeckia triloba 'Prairie Glow' is a bushy, short-lived perennial boasting masses of vibrant red-orange flowers, adorned with yellow tips and contrasting dark chocolate cones. Blooming profusely from mid-summer to frost, no matter what the weather is like, they rise atop bronzy purple, sturdy stems and provide fantastic and long-lasting color in the landscape. The basal rosette of three-lobed leaves persists through the winter, creating an attractive winter ground cover. Extremely easy to grow, this plant may naturalize easily and remain in the garden thanks to its ability to freely self-seed.
- Densely branched, this Coneflower usually grows up to 3-4 ft. tall (90-120 cm) and 18-24 in. wide (45-60 cm). Often tends to form colonies in the wild.
- Thrives in full sun, in average, moist, well-drained soils. Tolerates light shade, but this plant may need support if grown in too much shade. Heat and drought tolerant.
- Spectacular when massed in drifts, this is an excellent choice for perennial borders, cottage gardens, or naturalizing areas such as prairies or wildflower meadows. The flowers make excellent and long-lasting fresh-cut flowers.
- Robust, low maintenance, and highly disease resistant, it is also deer resistant.
- Remove spent flowers to promote further blooms, maintain a neat appearance, and prevent undesired self-seeding.
