Agastache aurantiaca ‘Apricot Sprite’ (Anise Hyssop) is a tender perennial boasting dense spikes of peachy apricot flowers from early to late summer. Blooming for weeks, they stand out in the garden and provide a bold visual appeal. Loved by bees and hummingbirds, the blossoms are borne above the low, compact clump of aromatic, finely textured foliage that emits a licorice scent when crushed. Perfect for use in sunny borders, mixed beds, or patio containers.

  • Grows up to 18 in. tall (45 cm) and 12-18 in. wide (30-45 cm).
  • Easily grown in full sun, in average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils. Dislikes damp conditions and needs excellent drainage. Although a drought-tolerant plant, it might need watering in extreme dry weather spells.
  • Grows best in well-drained alkaline soil but will tolerate poor acid soils.
  • Provides a bold visual impact in beds and borders, cottage gardens, city gardens, butterfly gardens, or patio containers over a very long season. Great as cut flowers too!
  • Ideal to add color to the late-season garden when many other plants are fading.
  • Creates a stunning effect when mixed with other perennials or planted en masse.
  • Attracts streams of hummingbirds, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators.
  • Generally disease and pest-free (might occasionally be subject to powdery mildew) and resistant to deer and rabbits.
  • Deadhead spent flowers to promote additional bloom.
  • Propagate by seed.
  • Agastache aurantiaca is native to Mexico.
