Winter's Rose' Camellia, Cold-Hardy Camellias, Fall Blooming Camellias, Winter Blooming Camellias, Camellia Hybrids, Winter Series Camellias, Early Season Camellias
A breathtaking beauty, Camellia ‘Winter’s Rose’ is a miniature early-season camellia from the U.S. National Arboretum Collection. Considered as one of the hardiest camellias, this evergreen camellia can be successfully grown in regions as cold as USDA Zone 6b. Blooming profusely over 4 to 6 weeks in the fall (October, November), each flower, about 2 in. across (5 cm), consists of several rows of overlapping shell-pink petals (28), opening to reveal golden stamens in their concave center. Petals are shed individually when blooms are completed, eliminating the need for any deadheading by the gardener. The foliage of small, glossy, dark green leaves is very ornamental. Perfect for small gardens!
‘Winter’s Rose’ is a rose form double camellia resulting from a cross between Camellia oleifera (cold hardiness) and Camellia hiemalis ‘Otome’ (flower form).
