Popular since the 1920s, Dianthus barbatus 'Holborn Glory' (Sweet William) is a biennial prized for its densely packed clusters of pristine white flowers adorned with a striking deep crimson ring. Blooming from spring to summer, the spicy-scented bicolored flowers rise on erect, sturdy stems above a low mound of grass-like, mid green leaves. No cottage garden would be without this old favorite, but it has a place in every garden. Perfect for the sunny perennial border, this heirloom Sweet William is also wonderful for containers, mass plantings or prairies and meadows. As an added bonus, Dianthus barbatus 'Holborn Glory' makes long-lasting cut flowers and is an excellent choice for dried flower arrangements.
