Award General
Geranium × cantabrigiense 'Biokovo', Cranesbill 'Biokovo', Hardy Geraniums, Best geraniums, Pink Geranium

Geranium × cantabrigiense ‘Biokovo’ (Cranesbill) is a vigorous, semi-evergreen, mat-forming perennial with masses of 5-petaled, very pale pink flowers, 1 in. across (2.5 cm), adorned with contrasting deep pink stamens. Blooming heavily in late spring or early summer, and to a lesser degree in fall when the weather cools, the flowers rise atop a foliage of aromatic, rounded, lobed, dark green leaves which become red-tinged in fall.

  • 2015 Perennial Plant of the Year.
  • Grows 6-12 in. tall (15-30 cm) and 12-18 in. wide (30-45 cm). This Geranium spreads gently by underground stems.
  • Performs best in full sun or part shade, in moderately fertile, well-drained soils. Full shade tolerant. Tolerates some drought, but spreads best in moist, humusy soils with good drainage.
  • Attractive to butterflies, but deer and rabbit resistant.
  • Great addition to beds, borders, cottage gardens, rock gardens. Perfect as ground cover or for underplanting roses and shrubs.
  • This sturdy performer is not only easy to grow, but it also requires very little maintenance and is fairly pest and disease free. Some susceptibility to leaf spots and rusts.
  • Remove flowered stems and old leaves to encourage the production of fresh leaves and flowers.
  • Foliage may decline after flowering in hot summer climates, at which point it may be lightly sheared back and shaped to revitalize.
  • Propagate by division between early fall and early spring or cut back plants after flowering in summer then divide, replant and water well.
