Heuchera 'Citronelle' (Coral Bells)
Coral Bells 'Citronelle', Alum Root 'Citronelle'
Robust and compact, Heuchera 'Citronelle' features showy, citron yellow leaves adorned with silver undersides that retain their luminous color throughout the growing season. If planted in a shady area, the foliage becomes more chartreuse. In mid-summer, panicles of small, bell-shaped, creamy flowers bloom on slender stems rising up to 14 in. (35 cm), just above the semi-evergreen foliage. A terrific choice for adding a touch of color in the rock garden, perennial border, along paths or in containers. This Heuchera villosa hybrid is a sport of the highly popular 'Caramel'.
- This clump-forming perennial forms basal mounds, up to 12 in. tall (30 cm) with a spread of 14 in. (35 cm). This sturdy performer is not only easy to grow, but also requires little maintenance and is pest and disease free!
- Performs best in part shade or full shade, in rich, humusy, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Thrives in dry shade, once established.
- It is attractive to butterflies and often ignored by deer.
- A spectacular addition to beds, borders, rock gardens, woodland gardens and is ideal as a groundcover, edger along paths or in containers. Fabulous when planted in groups!
- Divide clumps in spring every 3-4 years.
- Remove stems of faded flowers to promote additional bloom. Apply winter mulch after the ground freezes to help prevent root heaving.
