Vaccinium corymbosum Midnight Cascade™ (Blueberry)

Noted for its unique habit, Vaccinium corymbosum Midnight Cascade™ (Blueberry) is the first blueberry cultivar suitable for hanging baskets. This compact blueberry bush produces trailing stems that arch slightly upward and then spill down over the edges of the basket. Midnight Cascade Blueberry adds interest from spring to fall. In late spring, bell-shaped, white flowers give way to an abundant summer crop of deep blue medium-sized blueberries which ripen in midsummer. The flavor has hints of vanilla. The foliage of ovate, medium green leaves takes on deep red shades in the fall. Both ornamental and edible, Midnight Cascade Blueberry is perfect for hanging baskets or containers.

• Grows up to 18-24 in. long and wide (45-60 cm).
• A full sun lover, this plant is best grown in acidic, well-drained soils. Provide moderate water through the growing season, especially as the plant is getting established in its first year.
• Perfect for hanging baskets, containers, or as a groundcover if grown in the ground.
• No serious pest or disease issues. Watch out for vine weevil, powdery mildews, and chlorosis (manganese and iron deficiencies).
• Prune as needed in winter, removing dead or damaged stems in winter.
