Rosa ‘Mermaid’ (Climbing Rose)

Rose 'Mermaid', Climbing Roses

AGM Award
Rosa 'Mermaid',Rose 'Mermaid', Climbing Roses, Yellow roses, Shrub roses, Rose bushes, Garden Roses

A splendid repeat-flowering climber, award-winning Rosa ‘Mermaid’ produces a profusion of large, delicately fragrant, single, primrose-yellow flowers, 5 in. across (12 cm), adorned with long, prominent stamens. Blooming with remarkable regularity from summer to fall, the luminous blooms stand out against the reddish, thorny stems and the almost evergreen, glossy, dark green foliage. Vigorous, this large climbing rose features a sprawling habit with its long canes holding fast to their surroundings thanks to profuse thorns. Evergreen in mild climates, ‘Mermaid’ is surprisingly floriferous in part-shade. A large climber with incomparable blossoms and fine foliage.

  • Winner of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society
  • Grows up to 25 ft. tall (750 cm) and 20 ft. wide (600 cm). A very fast grower in mild climates.
  • This climbing rose is an excellent choice for wall-side borders, arbors, arches, pergolas, or other garden structures.
  • Best grown in full sun in moderately fertile, humus-rich, moist, well-drained soils. Tolerates some light shade, but best flowering and disease resistance generally occur in full sun. Summer mulch helps retain moisture, keeps roots cool, and discourages weeds. Apply a balanced fertilizer and mulch in late winter or early spring for best flowering. Protect from frost and cold drying winds.
  • Propagate by hardwood cuttings in autumn or by chip budding in summer
  • Bred by William Paul and Son in 1906.
