Coreopsis grandiflora ‘Sun Up’ (Tickseed)

Tickseed 'Sun Up', Sun Up Tickseed

Coreopsis Grandiflora 'Sun Up', Coreopsis Sun Up, Tickseed Sun Up, Drought tolerant plants, dry soil plants, heat tolerant plants, humidity tolerant plants, yellow flowers

Coreopsis Grandiflora ‘Sun Up’ is a compact perennial which produces an abundance of brilliant golden-yellow, semi-double flowers, adorned with several rows of wonderfully ruffled petals. This is one of the earliest Coreopsis to bloom, beginning in late spring and continuing to late summer if spent flower shoots are removed. The blossoms are borne on upright stems, which sway gently in the breeze atop the finely divided foliage. This tough plant has excellent heat and drought tolerance once established. Perfect for small gardens and containers.

  • Grows up to 10-12 in. tall (25-30 cm) and 12-14 in. across (30-35 cm)
  • Prefers full sun but tolerates partial shade (specifically in hot summer areas) and enjoys dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils. Thrives in poor, sandy or rocky soils and is drought tolerant
  • Easy to grow, relatively pest and disease free, this Coreopsis is a favorite of bees and butterflies but is ignored by deer.
  • Very versatile, it is a welcomed addition to borders, cottage gardens and does great in containers. Effective as an accent plant and spectacular in mass plantings.
  • Deadheading of spent flowers will promote new blooms, although this can be tedious. Midsummer shearing (after the first flush of flowers) should help tidy up the plant and promote a fall rebloom.
