Adding color from spring through fall, Lagerstroemia Rikki Tikki® Rouge (Crape Myrtle) is an upright, rounded, deciduous shrub with abundant clusters of crinkly, brilliant cherry-red blooms at its branch tips in midsummer to early fall. They stand out against the foliage of silvery green leaves, which emerge deep burgundy-purple in the spring. When not in bloom, the foliage is handsome in its own right. Highly resistant to leaf spot and powdery mildew, this dwarf crape myrtle can be used as a low hedge or specimen, or mixed with colorful perennials. Perfect for small gardens.

  • Grows up to 3-5 ft. tall and wide (90-150 cm).
  • A full sun lover, this plant is easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Drought and heat tolerant. Water regularly until established. To help crape myrtles retain water, mulch with organic matter 2-3 in. deep (5-7 cm).
  • Good disease and pest resistance. Crape myrtles are not usually browsed by deer.
  • Perfect as a specimen plant or for foundation plantings. Great for patio containers. Effective as a screen or informal hedge in mild winter areas.
  • During the growing season, clip off spent flowers to promote a second, lighter bloom.
  • Crape myrtles bloom on new wood and should be pruned in winter or early spring. Remove dead branches any time.
