Crape Myrtle Pink Velour®, Crapemyrtle Pink Velour®, Lagerstroemia indica 'Whit III'

Award General
Lagerstroemia Indica ‘Whit III’ Pink Velour, Crape Myrtle ‘Whit III’ Pink Velour, Shrub, Pink Flowers, Pink Crape Myrtle

A very ornamental crape myrtle, Lagerstroemia indica Pink Velour® is a multi-season beauty enjoying an extraordinarily long blooming period, exfoliating bark, and superb fall color. Regarded as one of the most colorful varieties, it bears abundant clusters of crinkly, vibrant magenta-pink flowers at its branch tips for months, from midsummer to early fall, attracting strong attention from onlookers. Flowers give way to round seed capsules, which often persist well into winter. This attractive deciduous shrub or small tree also features thick and leathery leaves that emerge burgundy red in spring, mature to purplish green by summer, and turn orange-brown in fall. The grayish-brown bark on mature branches exfoliates with age, adding further interest to the landscape. A great specimen or foundation plant.

  • Grows up to 6-12 ft. tall and wide (180-360 cm).
  • A full sun lover, this plant is easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soils. Thrives in loamy and clay soils provided there is good drainage. Foliage may turn yellow (chlorosis) in alkaline soils. Drought and pollution tolerant.
  • Winner of the Gold Medal Award of The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society
  • Cold tolerant and low maintenance, this Crape Myrtle variety particularly enjoys excellent good mildew resistance. Some susceptibility to aphids and scale
  • Flowers appear on the new wood.
  • Perfect choice for perennial borders or mixed shrub borders. Perfect as a specimen plant or for foundation plantings. Good selection for coastal gardens.
  • Lagerstroemia indica species is native to Temperate and Tropical Asia. It has been widely cultivated as an ornamental and has become naturalized in Europe, America, and the Caribbean.
