Rosa Benjamin Britten (English Rose)
Rose Benjamin Britten, Rosa 'Ausencart', Shrub Roses, David Austin Roses
Noteworthy for its powerful contrast in the garden, this fabulously colored English rose, introduced by David Austin in 2001, combines beauty, fragrance, a remarkably long-blooming season, and high resistance to diseases.
Adding excitement to the garden with its striking and unusual coloring, English Rose 'Benjamin Britten' (Ausencart) features deeply-cupped, double blossoms that open as a deep salmon pink and change to slightly cupped rosettes of a pure saturated pink-red. Borne on gracefully arching stems, clothed in shiny, deep green leaves, it has a strong, fruity fragrance that makes it a superb cut flower.
- Blooming in flushes from late spring to fall, it provides a charming display that is a feast for the eyes. Combined with the large, blue-violet blossoms of Geranium Johnson's Blue, it looks irresistible!
- Featuring a bushy, upright habit, this ravishing and vigorous shrub is an excellent repeat bloomer whose striking beauty allows it to be treated as a specimen plant in the landscape. It is also a superb addition to the border and makes a lovely flowering hedge. Its medium size allows it to fit small gardens and makes it perfectly suited to container planting.
- Grows up to 4 feet tall (120 cm) and 3 feet across (90 cm). Ideal as a short climber as it can grow up to 8-10 feet tall (240-300 cm)
- Best grown in full sun or partial shade in rich, fertile with adequate moisture, well-drained soils.
- Summer pruning will help to maintain the height and encourage quicker repeat flowering.
- This rose was named to commemorate the life and work of the famous English composer, conductor, and performer.
- David Austin’s English Roses combine the flower forms and perfume of Old Roses with the color range and repeat-flowering habits of modern roses. As a Rose breeder, David Austin’s achievement is in marrying the romantic “English Rose” look with reliable garden performance, vigorous growth, full bushes, disease resistance, and prolific season-long bloom. Over 200 English Roses have been released since 1961, many of them receiving the highest rewards.
