Rosa Wollerton Old Hall (English Rose)

Rose Wollerton Old Hall, Rosa 'Ausblanket', Shrub Roses, David Austin Roses

One of the most fragrant of all English Roses, Wollerton Old Hall (Ausblanket) combines the elegance and perfume of old roses, with the long flowering season that so many old roses lack. The plump buds, with attractive flashes of red, gradually develop into chalice-shaped, butter-yellow blooms (43 petals) which then soften to a softer creamy color with hints of peach. All the way, the flowers retain their lovely rounded shape and carry an exceptionally powerful myrrh scent rich with a delicious citrus element. More upright in growth than many English Roses, and mostly thorn-free, Wollerton Old Hall produces an abundance of flowers over a long blooming season. Introduced by David Austin in 2011, this fabulous rose should be positioned where its strong scent can be easily appreciated!

  • Blooming in flushes from late spring to fall, this rose is an excellent repeat bloomer
  • Grows up to 5 - 8 feet tall (150 - 240 cm) and 3 feet across (90 cm). In areas where heat can be intense, position the bush out of the afternoon sun. In warm areas, ‘Wollerton Old Hall’ can be expected to grow taller and may be better suited to use as a climber.
  • Enjoying a lovely upright and bushy habit, this ravishing rose bush is also a superb addition to the mixed border, planted with roses or other shrubs and perennials. Vigorous, it can also be grown as a climber up to 8 ft. (240 cm). Plant it where you will be able to enjoy its perfume daily: near a doorway, along a path, near your patio or deck.
  • Best grown in full sun in rich, fertile with adequate moisture, well-drained soils.
  • This rose was named after Wollerton Old Hall in Shropshire, one of the most beautiful private gardens in the country. The gardens are set around a 16th Century Hall and feature roses in creative plant combinations, including many David Austin Roses.
  • David Austin’s English Roses combine the flower forms and perfume of Old Roses with the color range and repeat-flowering habits of modern roses. As a Rose breeder, David Austin’s achievement is in marrying the romantic “English Rose” look with reliable garden performance, vigorous growth, full bushes, disease resistance, and prolific season-long bloom. Over 200 English Roses have been released since 1961, many of them receiving the highest rewards.
