Wherry's Foam Flower, Tiarella collina, Tiarella cordifolia var. collina


Tiarella wherryi (Wherry's Foam Flower) is a compact herbaceous perennial forming a lush clump of heart-shaped, lobed, green leaves adorned with reddish or purplish veins. Evergreen in mild winter climates, the foliage turns bronze in the colder months. In late spring, short wands of small, white or pinkish flowers are borne above the foliage. Attractive and ornamental, Wherry's Foam Flower is a great choice as a woodland edging plant or as a groundcover.

  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society.
  • Grows up to 8-12 in. tall (20-30 cm) and 10-12 in. wide (25-30 cm).
  • Performs best in cool, moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil in partial shade or full shade. Protect from excessive winter wet.
  • A pretty addition to beds and borders, woodland gardens, cottage gardens. Great as a groundcover or underplanting shrubs and roses.
  • Remove stems of faded flowers and dead leaves.
  • Generally pest and disease free. Keep an eye out for slugs. Deer and rabbit resistant.
  • Propagate by seed in pots in a cold frame as soon as seed is ripe or in spring. Propagate by division in spring.
  • Native to southeastern North America.
