Tuscan Blue Rosemary, Rosemary 'Tuscan Blue', Rosmarinus officinalis 'Tuscany Blue', Salvia rosmarinus 'Tuscan Blue'
Rosmarinus officinalis 'Tuscan Blue' (Rosemary) is an attractive, upright evergreen shrub with strongly aromatic, olive green, needle-like leaves and clusters of deep blue, tubular flowers in the winter through spring. Easy to maintain and undemanding, Tuscan Blue Rosemary is a great candidate for hedges, privacy screens, and waterwise gardens. The leaves are good for cooking and can be used fresh or dried to flavor dishes.
- Grows up to 6 ft tall (180 cm) and 2-4 ft wide (60-120 cm).
- Easily grown in poor, well-drained soils in full sun. Drought tolerant once established.
- Great for beds and borders, Mediterranean gardens, cottage gardens, city gardens, gravel gardens, patio containers, or as a formal or informal hedge.
- Virtually disease free. Keep an eye out for thrips and rosemary beetle.
- Attractive to bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, however, deer dislike rosemary's strong scent.
- Propagate by semi-hardwood cuttings.
- Rosemary needs little pruning. Prune lightly removing unsightly shoots as required. Since Rosemary blooms in summer and late fall on the previous or current year's growth, prune plants in mid to late spring.
- Rosmarinus officinalis is native to the Mediterranean region, from where it has been introduced into all continents.
