Lycoris
Lycoris (Spider Lilies) are striking bulbous perennials boasting showy umbels of funnel-shaped flowers on naked stems in late summer and early fall. Most species have blooms with narrow, strap-like petals and extremely long stamens resembling graceful eyelashes. The leaves and flowers refuse to appear together. Linear or strap-shaped, the foliage emerges in spring or in fall (in mild-winter areas) and dies down in summer. Easy to grow, deer resistant, these naked ladies deserve an invitation to your garden party.
