Very floriferous, Salvia curviflora (Tehuacan Sage) is an upright, bushy, semi-evergreen perennial with a profusion of tubular bright fuchsia-pink flowers held on long graceful spikes in summer and fall. The lower lip of the velvety blossoms is often curved under. The tall, vertical spires are clothed with lush foliage of long, lance-shaped, dark green leaves. Easy care and low maintenance, this Mexico native plant is a favorite of butterflies and hummingbirds. Prized for its long blooming season, Salvia curviflora is an excellent plant for containers or border plantings.

  • Tender, this plant is hardy to zone 9 and is generally treated as an annual in cooler areas.
  • Grows up to 3-4 feet tall (90-120 cm) and 3 ft. wide (90 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun in moderately fertile and moist but well-drained soil. It tolerates partial shade but is best in full sun. Once the plant is established, it will require less watering.
  • A lovely choice for beds and borders, city gardens, cottage gardens, Mediterranean gardens, and containers.
  • No serious pest or disease issues. Deer resistant.
  • Prune during the growing season to keep the plant neat and tidy.
  • Removing faded flower stems will prolong flowering.
  • Propagate by division in spring and by semi-ripe cuttings in summer.
  • Native to Mexico.
