Sedum spathulifolium (Broadleaf Stonecrop) is a ground-hugging evergreen perennial forming an attractive carpet of tidy little rosettes of thick and succulent, chalky white to silvery-gray to blue-green leaves. The foliage picks up reddish or purple tints in winter. Attractive to butterflies, moths and pollinating insects, showy sprays of bright yellow starry flowers appear atop short, thick stems in summer. Native to western North America from British Columbia to Southern California, where it tends to grow on the face of cliffs or steep rocky outcrops, often in shade, Broadleaf Stonecrop is a great choice for rock gardens, rock walls, decorative containers. Tough, cold-hardy and drought tolerant, it also makes a lovely groundcover, particularly in the Pacific Northwest where it thrives.

  • Grows up to 2-8 in. tall (5-20 cm) and 12-36 in. wide (30-90 cm).
  • Best grown in full sun or partial shade, in moderately fertile well-drained soils. Prefers dry, nutrient-poor, thin soils. Protect from excessive winter wet. Drought tolerant once established.
  • Perfect for rock gardens, coastal gardenscontainers, garden edging or as a groundcover.
  • Low maintenance, this Sedum forgives neglect!
  • No serious pest or disease issues. Deer resistant.
  • Propagate by seed or semi-hardwood cuttings
  • Native to California, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia.
