Sedum tetractinum ‘Coral Reef’ (Chinese Stonecrop) is a low growing, evergreen, succulent perennial forming a tight carpet of fleshy, rounded, shiny green leaves. The leaves take on some coral highlights when exposed to full sun. In fall, the entire plant turns coral. Blooming in summer, yellow star-shaped flowers look handsome against the glossy foliage. Native to China, Sedum tetractinum is often used as a ground cover and as a lawn substitute in small areas. Ideal for the dry garden, it can be used as an edging, in rock gardens, or tucked into cracks in a rock wall.

  • Grows up to 3-4 in. tall (7-10 cm) and 10-12 in. wide (25-30 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun in poor to moderately fertile, well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil. Tolerates part shade and moist soils better than most other sedums.  Drought and heat tolerant once established.
  • Perfect for cottage gardens, rock gardens, containers, edging or as a groundcover.
  • No serious pest or disease issues. Keep an eye out for slugs, snails or root rot. Deer and rabbit resistant.
  • Low maintenance, this Sedum forgives neglect!
  • Trim back after flowering to maintain shape.
  • Propagate by softwood cuttings.
  • Native to China.
