Create a bold impact with the lush foliage of Hosta ‘Orange Marmalade’ (Plantain Lily). Big and stunning, this herbaceous perennial forms an attractive mound of lightly corrugated leaves, up to 8 in. long (20 cm), which emerge blue-green in spring. The leaf center turns orange-gold in early summer, before fading to creamy-white. Funnel-shaped lavender blooms appear in summer, rising on scapes 24 in. long (60 cm). A moderate to fast-growing variety, it is excellent for borders or massing but also suitable for planting in mixed containers and tubs.

  • Grows up to 18 in. tall (45 cm) and spreads up to 30-33 in. (90-97 cm).
  • Performs best in part shade to full shade in fertile, moist, well-drained soils. Shelter from cold, dry winds.
  • Perfect for the shade garden, mixed with other perennials in bed and borders, city gardens, and cottage gardens. Great for underplanting shrubs and roses.
  • Watch for slugs and snails which could damage the attractive foliage.
  • Cut off the stems after blooming to encourage the plant’s growth. Discolored leaves should be trimmed back to the ground.
  • Propagate by division in early spring or late summer.
  • Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
