Hosta ‘Wide Brim’ (Plantain Lily)

Among the most popular variegated hostas ever introduced, Plantain Lily ‘Wide Brim’ (Hosta) cheerfully brings some color to shady areas! It forms an attractive, dome-shaped mound of broadly heart-shaped, puckered dark green leaves with a blue cast, widely and irregularly margined buttery yellow. Opening from pale lavender-gray buds, violet-striped pale lavender funnel-shaped flowers appear in mid to late summer in a dense raceme. However, the primary contribution of this hosta is its lovely foliage.

This hosta is very popular in flower arrangements thanks to its pleasing outline, rugosity and distinctive wide margin.

• Perfect for the shade garden, mixed with other perennials in bed and borders, city gardens, cottage gardens or containers. Great as a groundcover or underplanting shrubs and roses.
• Watch for slugs and snails which could damage the attractive foliage.
• Cut off the stems after blooming to encourage the plant’s growth. Discolored leaves should be trimmed back to the ground.
