Hosta ‘Bulletproof’ (Plantain Lily)

Hosta ‘Bulletproof’ (Plantain Lily) is a medium-sized clump-forming perennial forming a neat, colorful mound of extremely thick, spear-shaped, intense blue leaves, 7 in. long (17 cm). The foliage retains its beautiful blue color late into the season if kept out of direct sunlight. Racemes of pale lavender flowers appear in midsummer on arching scapes reaching 24 in. (60 cm). The heavy substance of the leaves helps to make this foliage plant more slug-resistant. A sport of award-winning Hosta ‘Halcyon’, this blue hosta is ideal for growing in a container on the patio or along shady paths where its ravishing leaves can be appreciated.

• Grows up to 16 in. tall (40 cm) and 36 in. wide (90 cm).
• Performs best in part shade to full shade in fertile, moist, well-drained soils. Shelter from cold, dry winds.
• Perfect for the shade garden, mixed with other perennials in beds and borders, city gardens, cottage gardens, or containers. Great as a groundcover or underplanting shrubs and roses.
• Watch for slugs and snails, which could damage the attractive foliage.
