Hosta ‘Francee’ (fortunei) (Plantain Lily)

Regarded as one of the best white-margined hostas, ‘Francee’ (Plantain Lily) is an outstanding perennial forming a dense, arching mound of broadly heart-shaped, rich dark green leaves, 6 in. long (15 cm), with narrow white margins. Funnel-shaped pale lavender blooms appear in late summer, rising on scapes 28 in. long (70 cm). A popular choice, ‘Francee’ increases fairly quickly and is therefore excellent for landscaping. Terrific in containers too.

• Easy grower, Hosta ‘Francee’ grows 21 in. tall (52 cm) and spreads 51 in. (127 cm).
• Performs best in part shade to full shade in fertile, moist, well-drained soils. Shelter from cold, dry winds.
• Perfect for the shade garden, mixed with other perennials in bed and borders, city gardens, cottage gardens or containers. Great as a groundcover or underplanting shrubs and roses.
• Watch for slugs and snails which could damage the attractive foliage.
• Cut off the stems after blooming to encourage the plant’s growth. Discolored leaves should be trimmed back to the ground.
• Propagate by division in early spring or late summer.
