Hosta 'Paradigm' (Plantain Lily)
Plantain Lily 'Paradigm', 'Paradigm' Hosta
Hosta 'Paradigm' (Plantain Lily) forms an attractive, dense mound of thick, widely oval, highly seersuckered and puckered, chartreuse green leaves turning golden yellow as the season progresses. The satiny leaves are beautifully adorned with broad, blue-green margins. Funnel-shaped, pale lavender flowers appear in midsummer, rising on scapes 24 in. tall (60 cm). Fast growing, this hosta cultivar is slug resistant and tolerates morning sun in cooler climates.
- Grows up to 20 in. tall (50 cm) and 36 in. wide (90 cm).
- A part shade to full shade lover, it is best grown in rich, moist, well-drained soils. Quite sun tolerant with adequate moisture, this plant is not fussy about soils and tolerates a wide range of conditions.
- Named Hosta of the Year by the American Hosta Growers Association (2007).
- Perfect for the shade gardens, mixed with other perennials, as groundcover, edging, underplanting shrubs.
- Attracts both hummingbirds and songbirds
- Watch for slugs and snails which could damage the attractive foliage.
- Cut off the stems after blooming to encourage the plant's growth. Discolored leaves should be trimmed back to the ground.
