Plantain Lily 'Paradigm', 'Paradigm' Hosta
Hosta 'Paradigm' (Plantain Lily) forms an attractive, dense mound of thick, widely oval, highly seersuckered and puckered, chartreuse green leaves turning golden yellow as the season progresses. The satiny leaves are beautifully adorned with broad, blue-green margins. Funnel-shaped, pale lavender flowers appear in midsummer, rising on scapes 24 in. tall (60 cm). Fast-growing, this hosta cultivar is slug resistant and tolerates morning sun in cooler climates.
- Named Hosta of the Year by the American Hosta Growers Association (2007). Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society.
- Grows up to 20 in. tall (50 cm) and 36 in. wide (90 cm).
- Performs best in part shade to full shade in fertile, moist, well-drained soils. Shelter from cold, dry winds.
- Perfect for the shade garden, mixed with other perennials in bed and borders, city gardens, cottage gardens, or containers. Great for edging.
- Watch for slugs and snails which could damage the attractive foliage.
- Cut off the stems after blooming to encourage the plant's growth. Discolored leaves should be trimmed back to the ground.
- Propagate by division in early spring or late summer.
