Syringa Scent and Sensibility™ Pink (Lilac)

Lilac Scent and Sensibility™, Syringa 'SMSXPM' PP26548

Syringa Scent and Sensibility™ Pink (Lilac) is a dwarf, deciduous shrub of compact, spreading habit. Opening from dark pink buds in spring, soft lilac-pink flowers are on display over a long season. Blooming massively in mid-late spring, the heavily fragrant blossoms are so profuse that they literally cover the plant. After a rest period, they repeat sporadically throughout the summer and until frost, but they are not as abundant as in spring. The branches are clothed in rich green, heart-shaped leaves that remain attractive in summer. This reblooming lilac is perfect for small gardens and containers.

  • Grows up to 2-3 ft. tall (60-90 cm) and 4-6 ft. wide (120-180 cm).
  • A full sun lover, this plant is easily grown in moist, well-drained soils. Appreciates mulching when planted in full sun. Needs good air circulation.
  • No serious insect or disease problems. May get leaf-mining moths, thrips, or be affected by lilac blight
  • Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds but is deer resistant.
  • Plant as a specimen or massed in mixed shrub borders for dramatic spring blooms. Use it in the perennial border to add structure to a bed. A great flowering shrub that is perfect for containers.
  • Fertilize with a controlled-release fertilizer in early spring. May be trimmed after spring blooms.
