Considered one of the most popular of the fall blooming camellia varieties, Camellia sasanqua ‘Mine-No-Yuki’ (White Doves) is absolutely splendid. It bears elegant, snow-white double blooms, up to 3 in. wide (7 cm), with orange anthers and golden filaments scattered among the petals. Opening up from round flower buds with pink tips, the blooms are produced over a fairly long period in early season (October – January in the Northern Hemisphere; March – June in the Southern Hemisphere), in such profusion (over 150 blossoms per bush!) that this splendid camellia always creates a breathtaking sight when in full bloom. The foliage of glossy, dark green leaves is evergreen and makes a wonderful backdrop for your perennial beds.

  • This medium-sized evergreen shrub has an upright, willowy habit with arching and cascading branches. It grows up to 6-8 ft. tall and wide (180-240 cm)
  • A full sun to part shade lover, this plant is best grown in consistently moist, acidic, organically rich, well-drained soils. Provide a site sheltered from cold, dry winds as buds and flowers may be damaged by cold winds. Protect from early morning sun and from direct hot summer afternoon sun.
  • May be attacked by aphids, scale insects and vine weevil
  • Mass in mixed shrub borders for dramatic winter blooms. Great flowering shrub for woodland gardens, espaliers or as screen and hedge. Perfect as a specimen plant and may be effectively grown in tubs or large containers.
  • Apply a root mulch (leaves or shredded bark)
  • Prune after flowering. Prune to thin branching and to control size and shape.
