Lilium nepalense (Nepal Lily) is a bulbous perennial with huge, downward-facing, greenish-white to greenish-yellow, funnel-shaped flowers adorned with a striking deep burgundy throat. Blooming in early to mid-summer, the exquisite blossoms are borne on upright or arching stems with scattered, lance-shaped, deep green leaves. They are unscented or unpleasantly scented. Native to the Himalayas and nearby regions, Nepal Lily is stoloniferous and spreads via underground rhizomes without being invasive.

  • Grows up to 28-36 in. tall (80-90 cm) and 12-18 in. wide (30-45 cm).
  • Performs best in part shade in acid, moist but well-drained loamy soils. Protect from fall and winter wet.
  • This Lily is well suited to beds and borders, city gardens, cottage gardens, or containers.
  • Keep an eye out for lily beetle, aphids, slugs, vine weevil, and gray mold.
  • Propagate by seed, sown in warmth when ripe, or separate offsets after the foliage dies down.
  • Toxic to cats (though not for dogs or any known species)
  • This lily is a member of the Species and cultivars of species Division (IX) which includes all species and their subspecies, varieties, forms, and cultivars selected therefrom (excluding those derived from formosanum, longiflorum, philippinense, and wallichianum). There are 9 different types of lilies classified by the Royal Horticultural Society. And they are all real eye-catchers!
  • Native to the Himalayas and nearby regions: northern Thailand, northern Myanmar, Assam, Bhutan, Sikkim, Nepal, Uttarakhand, Tibet, and Yunnan.
