Noted for its vibrant flowers, Salvia ‘Royal Bumble’ is a bushy evergreen shrub with a profusion of large, brilliant red flowers adorned with contrasting purple-black calyxes over a long season. Blooming from spring to frost, the blossoms are borne on purple-black, upright stems and stand out against the foliage of aromatic, glossy, deep-green leaves. The very attractive flower stalks are of great aesthetic appeal in beds or borders and attract scores of butterflies, hummingbirds and beneficial insects. Easy to grow, drought tolerant and deer resistant, Salvia ‘Royal Bumble’ is a dramatic shrub for the sunny border.

  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society.
  • Grows vigorously up to 2-3 ft. tall and wide (60-90 cm).
  • Thrives in full sun, in light, moderately fertile, well-drained soils. Best flower production in full sun but can tolerate light partial shade. Drought tolerant once established.
  • Low maintenance, this Salvia is perfect for beds and borders, and well suited to coastal gardens, cottage gardens or containers.
  • No serious pest or disease issues. Keep an eye out for slugs, snails, rosemary beetle and leafhoppers. Deer resistant
  • Deadhead to promote new blooms. Prune back in spring to maintain tidiness.
  • Propagate by basal cuttings or softwood cuttings in spring or early summer or semi-ripe cuttings in late summer or autumn with bottom heat.
