Hosta 'Undulata' (Wavy Plantain Lily)
Wavy Plantain Lily, Variegated Wavy Plantain Lily
Clump-forming, Hosta 'Undulata' is a handsome perennial that is widely cultivated as an ornamental plant in borders or as a specimen plant. Easy to grow, it forms attractive, dense mounds of showy green leaves, wavy-margined, and often with creamy markings cheerfully bringing color to shady areas! Funnel-shaped, mauve flowers, rising on arching scapes well above the foliage appear in early to midsummer, but the primary contribution of this Hosta is its lovely foliage.
- Part shade to full shade lover, it is best grown in rich, moist, well-drained soils. This plant is not fussy about soils and tolerates a wide range of conditions.
- Perfect for shade gardens, mixed with other perennials, as a groundcover, edging, underplanting shrubs, or in containers.
- Watch for slugs and snails which could damage the attractive foliage.
- Cut off the stems after blooming to encourage the plant's growth. Discolored leaves should be trimmed back to the ground.
- Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
- This Hosta group has been divided into 4 separate varieties by the Royal Horticultural Society:
Hosta Undulata var. Albomarginata |
Hosta Undulata var. Erromena |
