Lilium Golden Splendor Group (Trumpet Lily)

Lilium Golden Splendor Group is a striking group of trumpet lilies prized for its large, vibrant golden-yellow flowers, each up to 6 in. (15 cm) across. The outward- to downward-facing trumpets are often flushed or marked with burgundy on the outside, creating a rich contrast. Intensely fragrant and exceptionally floriferous, these lilies can produce impressive clusters of 12-20 blooms per stem, creating a long-lasting midsummer display. • Blooming in mid to late summer, these lilies make excellent border plants, adding height, brilliant color, and architectural form to perennial beds. They combine beautifully with annuals, perennials, ornamental grasses, and other summer-flowering bulbs. They are also well suited to containers and are excellent for the cutting garden, producing superb fresh-cut flowers.
• Growing up to 4 ft. tall (120 cm) on sturdy, leafy stems, they perform best in full sun or partial shade. They adapt to a range of soils as long as drainage is good, but they grow and flower best in fertile soil with consistent moisture. Avoid both waterlogged conditions and prolonged drought.
• Plant the bulbs in spring or fall, preferably in groups of at least 3 bulbs for the strongest visual impact. After flowering, remove spent blooms if desired, but allow the foliage and stems to remain until they turn yellow so the bulbs can replenish their reserves for the following year.
• Golden Splendor Group lilies are generally considered more tolerant of dry conditions than many other lilies once established, although regular moisture during active growth and flowering produces the best performance.
• Highly toxic to cats. True lilies in the genus Lilium can cause severe, potentially fatal kidney injury in cats if any part of the plant is ingested, including leaves, flowers, pollen, or stems. They are not considered toxic to dogs or horses.
• These lilies belong to the Trumpet and Aurelian Hybrids Division (VI), a group characterized by medium to very large flowers that may be trumpet-shaped, bowl-shaped, flat, or somewhat reflexed. Flowers occur in shades of white, cream, yellow, orange, and pink, often with contrasting markings or throats. Most are strongly fragrant and carried on tall, imposing stems, making them some of the most dramatic lilies for the summer garden.
