Solanum is a diverse genus including eggplants, potatoes, tomatoes and ornamental plants. They show a wide range of growing habits, such as annuals, perennials, evergreen or deciduous shrubs or twining climbers. They feature small, star-shaped, 5-petaled blue or white flowers with prominent stamens, followed by fleshy fruits. Their foliage of alternate leaves can be simple or pinnately compound. Deer resistant, Solanum plants are easy to grow in sun or partial shade.
