Plant Family / Muscari - Grape Hyacinths
Most Muscari species are so extremely winter hardy and easy to grow that no garden should be without them. They naturalize extremely easily and will come back year after year and multiply. They come in different shades of blue, in white and even pink. An additional benefit is that all Muscari have a lovely fragrance. The more you plant, the more fragrance you get! They are excellent as cut flowers, in rock gardens, beds, borders, under shrubs, and trees, and can be used for indoor forcing.
Particularly beautiful, Muscari 'Baby's Breath' is a distinctive grape hyacinth with clusters of pale, icy blue flowers that open from lime-green buds. Vigorous and delightfully scented, it is perfect for borders, containers or at home in a vase. Rising up to 6-8 inches tall (15-20 cm), this Grape Hyacinth will naturalize well
A jury composed of horticultural authorities in England has proclaimed Muscari armeniacum 'Valerie Finnis' the Flower Bulb of the Year 2012
Delightfully fragrant and free flowering, Muscari macrocarpum 'Golden Fragrance' is a yellow-flowered variety of Grape Hyacinth with conical racemes of densely packed, tubular flowers, opening a dusky purple to greenish-violet and eventually turning yellow.
