Eriogonum (Buckwheat)

Eriogonum (Buckwheat) is a genus of annuals, biennials, and evergreen perennials, sub-shrubs, and shrubs, grown for their dense terminal clusters of flowers and rosettes of hairy, often silver or white leaves. Sitting atop the branches, the ball-shaped flowers bloom over a long period, eventually fading through pretty shades of tan, camel, and caramel to rust-red. They reward gardeners with seemingly never-ending color and interest. The blossoms are some of the most popular nectar sources for butterflies and beneficial insects. Thriving in full sun and well-drained soils, Buckwheats are low maintenance and drought, heat, and wind tolerant. They are great for covering dry banks or massing in rock gardens. The striking spent blooms may be used in dried bouquets.
