Among the choicest of rock garden plants, Saxifraga (Saxifrage) can be annuals, biennials, evergreen or herbaceous perennials. Noted for the exquisite symmetry of their star-shaped flowers and fine-textured foliage, they come in all sorts of sizes, shapes, colors and bloom from late winter through to the frosts of fall. Mostly mat-forming in habit, they are well-suited to rock gardens, troughs, containers. These creeping groundcovers from North America and Europe need good drainage and light soil.
